Transportation Switzerland: Everything you need to know

Bulky goods are shipped daily in the commercial sector. This makes it one of the biggest tasks for companies that carry out transportation in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. But what exactly is meant by the term "bulky goods"? And what should you pay attention to when shipping?

Transporte Schweiz: Pallet and bulky goods shipping - what is it actually?

The name already suggests it: The term "bulky goods" covers everything that is bulky. This definition sounds imprecise at first. As the shipping companies can define the exact description themselves, bulky goods shipping cannot always be narrowed down precisely.

As a rule, all shipping goods that do not fit into a cuboid box fall under bulky goods. Large body parts such as hoods are a good example of this. On the other hand, a large refrigerator will fit into a cuboid box. Nevertheless, it must be shipped as bulky goods due to its weight and size.

The answer to this is quite simple: very large goods, which are usually also very heavy, make transportation more difficult. As a result, there is no longer enough space for other consignments. In many cases, it even has to be carried out separately. Transport companies are remunerated accordingly for the additional work involved. This is why these shipments have their own tariff.

Transport Switzerland: How to pack your bulky goods correctly!

Shipping is always a heavy burden for the product. It is also associated with the risk of damage. To ensure that your shipment arrives at the recipient undamaged, it is essential to protect the goods in the best possible way with suitable packaging.

Please note: The product packaging is not shipping packaging. For example, if you want to send a large flat screen to your customer, you should protect it separately. Although simple product packaging offers a certain degree of protection, it cannot withstand the high transport loads.

If in doubt, this would be saving money at the wrong end: the goods may be damaged during transportation and nobody wants to accept liability for this. For this reason, we always recommend a sturdy and separate shipping box.

Transports Switzerland: It's all about the right size

There are several factors that influence the right size when choosing the shipping method. If it is a very delicate product, a lot of padding is required.

Bubble wrap is ideal for protecting the contents, so make sure you wrap your shipment sufficiently with it.

Does your product have sharp corners and edges? Protect these areas particularly well. This will also prevent parts from breaking off.

The goods are now adequately secured. Then place the goods in the box. If necessary, fill any gaps with padding/filling material. Make sure that you close the shipping carton thoroughly.

Attach the shipping documents to the box. Make sure that the documents are clearly visible. This will avoid a delay in shipping.

Especially when shipping bulky goods, it can be quite a challenge to have suitable cardboard packaging to hand. With a little creativity, you can create a suitable box from various cardboard boxes. Important: Remove all old shipping documents. This is the only way to ensure that we deliver your shipment to the right destination.

Transporte Schweiz: Pallet shipping with SpediFux®

It is often cheaper and safer to ship goods on a pallet rather than in one or more boxes. This is why pallet shipping is part of the daily business of freight forwarders.

In logistics, underlays serve as robust and versatile aids. Heavy goods are bundled, secured and transported with and on them. Which pallet type is the right one for your products and goods depends on

of the freight. In order to transport the pallets safely and efficiently, we need to know the exact dimensions.

Transportation Switzerland - what exactly are pallets?

Man's ingenuity and inventiveness knows virtually no bounds. He has invented a simple and extremely practical aid for shipping large, bulky and heavy goods: the pallet. It is capable of carrying a wide variety of goods.

You can stack objects with a total weight of up to 2000 kg on a Euro pallet with even load distribution. The pallet can even withstand a point load of 1000 kg without any problems. If you need real heavy-duty specialists, simply use so-called industrial pallets.

Smaller general cargo, such as boxes or crates, can be transported just as easily with these aids as large, bulky or heavy bulky goods. You can choose to send the pallets by truck as a full load, as a partial load or as individual consignments.

The different pallet types

The transportation of a wide variety of goods requires different aids. These are selected according to the nature, size, weight and shape of the goods to be transported. It is therefore important to select the right pallet before handing over the goods to the freight forwarder.

Modern all-rounder: the Euro pallet

Thanks to its international standard dimensions of 1200 x 800 x 144 millimetres and a tare weight of around 25 kg, the Euro pallet is suitable for pallet exchange in all countries that belong to the Euro pallet pool. It is made of robust wood and can carry a weight of up to 2000 kg. It is also suitable for reuse.

Disposable pallets

The name already makes it clear: disposable pallets are used for one-off transportation. As a rule, they are less resilient and their service life is also significantly shorter. After use, they are disposed of by the last recipient in the supply chain. These transport aids are usually made of wood, corrugated cardboard, plastic or chipboard.

Transporte Schweiz - the right packaging for pallet shipping

As with shipping bulky goods, optimum packaging and securing is also important when shipping pallets. If general cargo is shipped in transport boxes on pallets, the boxes must be sealed tightly with adhesive tape. Place cardboard between the pallet and cartons. When stacking, a cuboid arrangement offers the best possible stability.

It is also important that your transported goods do not protrude beyond the pallet. To ensure that everything stays in place on the pallet, secure the freight with a suitable stretch film. If necessary, additional air cushions provide protection. Don't forget all the necessary freight documents and labels for labeling.
