Shipping bulky goods with SpediFux® - tips for safe shipping

If your goods do not fit into a standard box, they usually have to be shipped as bulky goods. We will show you what this involves.

What counts as bulky goods?

The term "bulky goods" covers almost everything that deviates from the usual form. In addition to very large and/or very heavy boxes, this also includes rolls. Rounded or rounded cartons are just as much a part of bulky goods as cartons with protruding parts.

The format of your shipment plays an important role in the calculation of logistics services. Bulky goods take up more space in the truck compared to a conventional pallet shipment. In addition, bulky goods often require special treatment when it comes to securing the load.

Before preparing for transportation, check the following instructions:

• Is it possible to disassemble the goods and pack them rectangularly?
• Can the heavy freight perhaps be sensibly divided into several smaller units?

Properly packaged and safely delivered

If the transported goods are improperly packed, this can lead to damage. It is therefore essential to pack and cushion your goods well. If the packaging is unsuitable, any claims for compensation may be excluded in the event of a dispute.

The outer packaging

• Bubble wrap: The ideal protection for light goods. It can be used regardless of the shape of your goods.
• Bubble cushion: This inner packaging not only provides good thermal insulation, it also protects heavy goods well.
• Filling paper
• Moldable rigid foam: A specialist for optimally protecting the corners and dimensions of goods.
• Polyethylene foam panels: The material impresses with its excellent damping properties and thus ensures very good surface protection.
• Pallets: If you regularly ship heavy goods, pallets are the ideal choice.

Below you will find tips on the correct packaging for pallet shipping.

1. Use either a standardized Euro pallet or a disposable pallet, for example. You will also need suitable packaging material, such as sturdy cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, film covers, packing and/or lashing tape and cutting tools.
2. Place the item you wish to ship on the pallet. If a stable and straight stand is not possible, place a suitable and stable cardboard box between the item and the pallet.
3. Wrap the item several times with bubble wrap and then secure the wrap with parcel tape.
4. To protect corners and edges, pack the items in a sturdy cardboard box of the appropriate size.
5. A film cover is placed over the packaged item as further protection against damage and dirt. Alternatively, you can use wrap/stretch film.
6. Make sure that the goods to be transported do not overhang the pallet.
